The History
At the beginning of the 19th century, there were more than 50 whiskey distilleries on the island of Arran. Only one had a license, but this was closed in 1938. From this point on Arran was no longer officially distilled.
In 1990 Harold Currie fulfilled his lifelong dream of having his own distillery and started building the Arran Distillery near Lochranza.
The completion and inauguration was scheduled for 1994, but brooded a golden eagle couple in the vicinity of the distillery. Thus, the construction work was stopped for several weeks.
On August 17, 1995, the inauguration took place. During the opening ceremony, the pair of eagles circled over the distillery, so today two stylized eagles adorn the logo of the Arran Distillery.

The production
All production takes place at the Isle of Arran Distillery in a single room. The required barley is sourced from large malting plants and ground to a grist in a modern Allan Ruddock mill.
Since Arran is very successful, more warehouses have already been built and it is planned to install a second still-pair.
